HLUKHIV Institute

The history of our college is closely connected with the history of Hlukhiv. Our college was founded in 1899. It's the oldest educational establishment of Ukraine and has its own history and traditions. In 1899 it was a vocational school named after its founder M. A. Tereshchenko. It trained specialists who worked with wood and metal.

In 1929 it was transformed into an agricultural technical school. During the fascists occupation the school didn't work and only in 1944 it started working. A new department of electrification of agriculture was opened in 1945. The school didn't stop its development. In 1971 a new department was opened. It was a building department.

In November 1991 the technical school was renamed into Hlukhiv agricultural school named after S. A. Kovpak. In 1995 it became an agrotechnical college. There are five departments at the college: accounting, mechanical, managerial, building, electrification. It trains builders, mechanics, electricians, accountants, managers, financiers in fulltime and extra-mural forms of education. More than 1000 students study here. About 100 teachers teach them. The students have computer centers, laboratories, a large library, a reading room, a sports ground, two gymnasiums, a canteen. The course of study lasts from 3 to 4 years. Each year of study consists of two terms. At the end of each term the students take exams and then they have vacations. Those who study well get a scholarship. On graduating the students receive diplomas which give them the right to work in different branches of agriculture and industry.

The college is housed in some buildings. There are three hostels, Kovpak museum and a large Assembly Hall in the college.

Sport is very popular among the students of our college. Many of them are winners of a lot of competitions. Those who are fond of art have a wide choice of amateur art activities at the students' clubs and circles.

The main purpose of our college is to give students contemporary knowledge and to provide them with excellent professional skills.

ENGLISH IS THE LANGUAGE OF COMMUNICATION

‘Do you speak English?’-with this phrase begins the conversation between two people, that speak different languages and want to find a common language.

It’s very good when you hear: “Yes, I do”, and start talking. People of different countries and each nations have to get along well with the progress in world trade and technology as well as with other.

So it is very useful to learn foreign languages. Knowledge of foreign languages helps us to develop friendship and understanding among people.

English is very popular now. It’s the language of computers, science, business, sport and politics. It’s spoken all over the world. It is the official language of the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States of America, Canada, Australia. There are more than 750 million speakers of English in the world.

Speaking a foreign language you can read papers, magazines and original books by great writers, watch satellite TV Programs. If you like travelling you can go anywhere without being afraid that other people will not understand you. English is very important to find a good job.

The painting  the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci is believed to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, who was a spouse of a Florentine merchant.

In the portrait we can see a fairly young woman sitting half-turned on a chair. Her gaze is fixed on us. There is a scarcely perceptible smile on her face. Her wavy hair falls on her shoulders. Her head is covered with a dark veil. Her face, brightly lit, is framed with dark objects, which brings our attention to it.

The woman is sitting upright with her arms folded. She is wearing a deep-green dress. Her shoulders are covered with a shawl.

Looking at the portrait we can see that the woman is sitting on the balcony. Behind her back there is a desolate land with a lake. In the background snow-covered mountains are seen.

The portrait is considered to be one of the best specimens of a portrait genre.

My favorite film “Home alone”

From year to year we celebrate Christmas and other winter holidays. Every family has its own traditions and customs of spending the holiday. Historically, during all the fuss around the preparation, people usually turn on the TV and just watch Christmas programs and films. As for me, my favorite film is “Home Alone”.

“Home Alone” is filmed in 1990 and it is certainly the greatest success of director Chris Columbus. In this story Mr. and Mrs. McCallisters want to spend Christmas in Paris with the whole family. Unfortunately, on the day of departure due to broken electricity lines, everyone wakes up later than planned. As a result parents forget about eight-year-old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), who was sleeping in the attic. At first time, the boy is pleased with the situation. He does what he wants and how he wants. At the same time, the house where Kevin lives is being watched by sneaky thieves, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern). They want to break into it on Christmas Eve, when the neighbors are too busy to notice anything disturbing. Kevin does not want to let that happen. He is preparing some smart traps for thieves.

In my opinion, “Home Alone” is already a tradition. Although I know this movie by heart and I watch it every year, I always have the same fun. Every year, my family and I sit in front of the TV to watch the adventures of the little boy again. First of all, the movie has this magical atmosphere that I just can’t resist. Secondly, there is a fantastic cast. Macaulay Culkin perfectly showed us the character of smart Kevin. Despite his young age, he played simply wonderfully. I could not fail to mention the actors of the two funniest thieves in the history of cinema. played extremely skillfully. Other actors such as John Heard, Gerry Bamman and Catherine O’Hara also did well. Another great plus of the film is the excellent soundtrack. There is a lot of great music that greatly convey the “Home Alone” atmosphere. The next important thing is directing. Actually, Chris Columbus did a great job. He managed to combine all the advantages, I have mentioned before, thanks to which he created a timeless work. I thank him with all my heart.

To sum up, “Home Alone” is a sensational family comedy, which can entertain even after 10 times watching it. I understand that the film may have already got bored (after all the years they have been playing it), but there is no reason to hate the film. Its annual broadcast does not change the fact that “Home Alone” is certainly a masterpiece in its category. I recommend to watching this film everyone!

My last visit to the theatre stands out vividly in my memory. It was «Swan lake» by P.I. Chaikovsky in the Kharkov Opera and Ballet theatre

Our seats in the 5th row were very good. People around us were looking forward to the performance, reading programmes and discussing the cast. Atjast the third warning bell rang and the performance began. It was first-rate from beginning to end. The setting was superb. The ballerina starring in the ballet danced so wonderfully that it seemed as if she was floating in the air. Her dancing, accompanied by charming music, made a tremendous impression on everybody.

When the last curtain went down there was a storm of applause. People presented the ballet stars with flowers.

It was one of the best performances I've seen in my life
